A surprise hit for HBO Max was the comedy Our Flag Means Death, and Pride Month saw the announcement of a Season 2 greenlight.
Just in, show creator David Jenkins teases the script for the second season:

Immediately fans are asking in the comments about their favorite characters—one of which was Lucius, who seems to have died in the first season. Seeing that Lucius was one of the more memorable members of the crew, and his death wasn’t really that impactful, a lot of fans are hoping that Lucius will find his way back to the show.
Of course, the main conflict fans are waiting on is between Blackbeard and Stede. Though Stede has pretty much figured out what he wants to do with himself, Blackbeard has pretty much closed himself off from everyone. With the two being the very heart of the series, I’m excited to see what Jenkins has in store for Season 2.
The unique new comedy is loosely based on the true adventures of 18th century would-be pirate, Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby. After trading in his comfortable life for one of a buccaneer, Stede becomes captain of a pirate ship, but struggles to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew. Stede’s fortunes change after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi.
No specific release date has been announced for Season 2, but we should expect it to premiere sometime in 2023. In the meantime, you can watch the complete first season now on HBO Max.
