Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake is shaping up to be a promising one. Months after the announcement of cast members Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson, a new actor joins the fore—Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista.
Variety confirms Bautista’s next role in the classic sci-fi film reboot. This marks the second time that Villeneuve and Bautista will work together after Blade Runner 2049. Bautista has been working on sci-fi films recently (take GotG and Avengers: Infinity War for example) so his announcement as a part of Dune‘s cast is no surprise. Bautista’s character is said to be a sadistic beast named Rabban.
Chalamet stars as the protagonist, Paul Atreides. The story revolves around planet Arrakis (AKA Dune) and Paul’s family’s attempt to reign over Dune and its main export, the drug Melange. It is the most valuable commodity in the entire galaxy because of its life-extending properties and the heightened consciousness it gives its users. However, Paul’s family falls when a galactic emperor betrays them.
Aside from directing the remake, Villeneuve is also producing the film alongside Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert will serve as executive producers.
