Dash & Lily Season 1 Episode 2 Recap - Lily

[00:01:00] Lily is the complete opposite of Dash: she loves Christmas because of family and tradition. Everyone in her family met their special someone on Christmas. Lily’s grandmother met her grandfather, so did her parents. Her brother met his boyfriend. Sadly, they also broke up on Christmas. Lily is different from all the other teens in her age group. She detests using cellphones; instead, she reads a book on the subway. Lily spends Christmas like a tradition with her family, but things will be different this year. Lily’s parents decide to have their honeymoon during the holidays. Her grandfather was also going out of town. She is left with no other choice but to spend the holidays with her brother, who sends her away because he has a date coming over.

[00:02:30] Lily is envious of other teenagers who have relationships during their teenage years. She couldn’t land a guy who would like her for who she is. She plans to go caroling for the holidays, so she messages all her adult friends, inviting them to go caroling. She breaks the news to her brother, who is having sex with his date. “Can we try that again?” her brother asks her what she was going to tell him earlier. She tells him about the caroling gig she has set up with the adults in their area. Lily’s brother pities her for not having anyone within her age group to spend time with. Lily responds she’s fine spending time with adults because they understand her better. Then, she asks about her brother’s date, Benny.

[00:05:00] Benny and her brother helped Lily find a date for the holidays. They helped her write the red notebook of dares and told her to leave it at the “Strand.” So she left the notebook at the bookstore and went home. The next day, she brought a tree to their apartment. She was setting the tree up when Mark, the attendant at the bookstore, texted her. He told Lily about Dash, but he didn’t like him. “He left instructions,” Mark tells her while giving her the notebook. Lily reads Dash’s message and finds out he hates Christmas. Lily went back to their apartment and, once again, caught her brother in the act with Benny. Benny was surprised someone played the dare they wrote in the red notebook. She blames them for making her sound cool when she’s the complete opposite.

[00:08:00] Lily doesn’t want to follow Dash’s instructions, so her brother tells her to put it back on the shelf and try again. She thought she should give Dash another chance, but Lily’s brother told her love doesn’t work that way. “You feel it, or you don’t,” he told Lily. She was afraid of responding to Dash’s dare, but she knew she had to. Lily was out caroling with the adults when she saw a bunch of girls from her soccer team. She thought she could hang out with them after caroling, but their boyfriends arrived, and they all left the park. Lily shows her adult friends her map on where they could continue caroling, but they couldn’t commit as they have their own lives to live.

[00:10:00] Lily decides to read Dash’s response and follow his instructions. Dash told Lily to leave the red notebook beside the most depressing Christmas movie she could find inside the pizza parlor. She did as told and left the book. But as Lily was about to leave, Boomer went out to go after her and discovered she is the notebook girl, but she didn’t want to meet with Dash just yet. She told Boomer Dash tried to trick her, so he needs to earn her name with a dare. Boomer told Lily that Dash could be the most loyal friend a person could have, although he has a lot of walls. He agrees to keep his conversation with Lily a secret as long as she would give Dash a chance. Lily then writes the dare to get Dash at Macy’s.

[00:14:00] Lily knew that Santa Land was only for kids. The guard stopped Dash from entering Santa Land and told him it’s only for kids twelve and under. Dash needed to ask Santa for Lily’s name, but he must enter Santa Land first. The guard was about to call security as Dash argued with him to get inside Santa Land, but Boomer interrupted, distracting the guard long enough for Dash to enter Santa Land. He cuts the line, which angers many parents standing in line for their kids. He shows Santa the red notebook—he immediately knows what Dash came to him for. Santa told him to sit on his lap. Dash refused, but he didn’t have the luxury of time, plus the parents behind him were rushing him so their kids could have their turn.

[00:15:30] Dash sits on Santa’s lap, but he doesn’t expect a threatening message from him. Santa tells him their mutual friend is special to him—he tells Dash not to hurt her. Dash ends up arguing with Santa, leading to a commotion. The guard hears the commotion, calls for backup, and approaches Dash. He tells Dash to come with him quietly, but he knows things won’t end well for him. Dash took Santa’s hat because Lily’s name was inside it, then he ran for his life as he bumped from one Christmas tree to another, trying to flee from Santa Land. The guards caught him and threw him out of Macy’s, but he succeeded in taking the hat. Boomer exits Macy’s and sees a smile on Dash’s face. He tells Boomer the mystery writer’s name is Lily.

[00:17:00] Dash asks Boomer for a favor because he can’t enter Macy’s anymore. Dash doesn’t reveal the favor yet, but Boomer agrees to do it. Later that night, Uncle Sal, who is Santa, meets up with Lily and tells her he doesn’t like Dash. He gives Lily the red notebook and leaves. She goes up to their apartment as everyone enjoys the night. Boomer gets the autograph of the guard elf at Macy’s while Lily’s brother sees the cookies she left out for him and Benny. They enjoy the cookies on the rooftop while they look at the stars. Lily reads Dash’s message for her. Dash tells Lily he submits to her rules. Everything needs to be earned, including personal questions, which will result in dares.

[00:19:30] Dash asks Lily what she wants for Christmas. While Dash looks at the hat he stole from Santa, Lily opens her radio to listen as a Christmas song plays on. Dash does the same. They both end up on the same program, listening to the same song. They both sing along with the song, thinking about each other.
