Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest stars of the early 2000s, but he has since disappeared from the spotlight after some nasty business with some Hollywood executives. Now he’s set to make a comeback with Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation of The Whale, and he talks about coming back to the spotlight.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Fraser explains how Aronofsky found him for the role. “He said he wanted an actor to reintroduce… And I wanted to be reintroduced,” said Fraser.
Though this role was meant to ‘reintroduce’ Fraser to the general audience, it’s said that he’s barely recognizable in the movie. Charlie, Fraser’s character, is said to be severely obese, and Fraser was required to wear a practical fat suit for the movie—opposite to Fraser’s usual look which was the dashing leading action man. Fraser adds, “I wanted to disappear into it. My hope was that I would become unrecognizable… I wanted to know what I was capable of.”
Besides Fraser, the movie also includes Stranger Things star Sadie Sink who will be playing the part of Charlie’s estranged daughter. With most of the film taking place inside Charlie’s house, it’s going to be interesting to see just how Aronofsky will delve into his usual style of capturing human suffering in such a limited space.
Hopefully we get a look at the movie soon.
