With James Bond 25 in the horizon, fans of the epic 007 franchise will have to digest some bad news—director Danny Boyle has officially left the project, citing “creative differences” as the reason for his exit.
In a tweet posted by the movie’s official Twitter, the movie’s producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli (along with lead star Daniel Craig) announced Boyle’s exit. The as-yet-untitled film follows 2015’s Spectre, in which we saw James Bond go head to head with a terrorist organization that has some blackmail material over the spy.
“Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25,” says the 007 Twitter account.

Currently slated for an October 5, 2019 release, it’s unclear how Boyle’s exit would affect Bond 25’s production schedule. Back in March, the director said in an interview with Metro, that the script is almost ready. “We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment,” Boyle said. “We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.”
It’s unknown as to who will take over the movie following Boyle’s exit. It could be more sensible to bring back Sam Mendes into the fore, after having helmed the two previous Bond films, Skyfall and Spectre.
Craig returns to give life to agent 007, but will also be his last outing as James Bond. Rory Kinnear, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Ralph Fiennes are also rumored to reprise their previous roles from Spectre.
