Daniel Craig had to Re-Learn His Southern Accent for Glass Onion

Daniel Craig is bringing back Benoit Blanc for another Knives Out movie, and while the character himself is pretty memorable, Craig apparently needed to be retrained how to talk like him.

Talking to Empire, Craig reveals that he needed to work for months with an accent coach just to bring Benoit Blanc back onscreen. He says, “I’d forgotten the accent and I didn’t want to do a pastiche. I wanted to make it as grounded and as anchored in reality as possible.”

While Craig had done a Southern accent with his hillbilly heist movie Logan Lucky, his accent for Blanc is a completely different drawl, with some pointing out its Kentucky roots.

We don’t know what the story for Glass Onion is yet, but we should expect Blanc to take a more central role this time around. With Ana de Arams essentially being the protagonist of the first movie, this time around we’re getting Craig as the main POV character, and he’ll have to crack a mystery that involves a bunch of strangers stuck on an island that’s owned by a rich Edward Norton character.

With Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptations essentially fizzling out in the box office, I am excited to see Johnson’s take on the genre. Though I would have preferred watching his next Star Wars property, it could be a while before we see him back at the helm for a galaxy far far away.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery comes to Netflix on Dec. 23.
