Daniel Craig had already tried his hand on a historical movie figure with James Bond, but he’s teamed up with Rian Johnson to create his own new mystery icon in the form of Benoit Blanc. Just in, we have a new featurette for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and it highlights Craig’s transformation into the southern, gay detective.
Watch this:
Glass Onion writer-director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig talk about evolving the world’s greatest detective into a new Knives Out mystery, while co-stars Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe and Edward Norton marvel at the BAFTA Award-nominated actor’s skillset and versatility.
On paper, Benoit Blanc is basically a modernized version of Hercule Poirot, the detective in the Agatha Christie books, but instead of being Belgian, he comes from the southern US; both are still very clever detectives though.
While Craig did play the suave and cool Bond for a couple of years, his character of Benoit Blanc actually leans more on the comedy side, while at the same time being able to deliver some heaviness to scenes that just makes the character perfect.
We don’t know when we’ll be seeing the next Blanc adventure, but Rian Johnson does have a deal to make one more movie for Netflix. Who knows, maybe after that, we can see Knives Out came back exclusively to theaters.
Here’s the synopsis for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery:
Tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.
