After the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it seemed that Lucasfilm had been focused on just giving us material from established eras like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it looks like they’re ready to finally push forward after the Sequel Trilogy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie is going to be taking place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Though the movie isn’t considered to be a direct follow-up to the Skywalker saga, it’s said that the film could feature characters from the Sequel Trilogy.
Though the Sequel Trilogy wasn’t perfect, there have been a lot of fans online that have been requesting a continuation of the timeline. After all, the franchise can’t just keep depending on going back to the middle because we already know how the OT and PT end.
If you’ve watched Lindelof’s Watchmen, you could get an idea of how he adds to established properties, and I’m hoping that he managed to have that same kind of creative freedom when it comes to Star Wars. After years of what feels like nostalgia-baiting and fan-pandering shows, I’m now ready for something more fresh that keeps true to the themes of the original SW without relying too much on established lore.
Something like the new Andor series would be a good example.
No release date has been set for Lindelof’s Star Wars movie, but it is suspected that it could come out sometime in December 2025.
