With Stranger Things set to end with its next season, producer Shawn Levy has teamed up with Disney for another sci-fi coming of age property.
Crater is a Disney+ original movie which is set to come out this May, and we have a new trailer starring Isaiah Russell-Bailey, McKenna Grace, and Scott Mescudi. Check this out:
Here’s the story synopsis:
“Crater” is the story of Caleb Channing (Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father (Mescudi). But before leaving, to fulfill his dad’s last wish, he and his three best friends, Dylan (Barratt), Borney (Hong) and Marcus (Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Grace), hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.
The trailer actually looks pretty fantastic, and you can see that the series is really leaning in on Levy’s Stranger Things connection. While the setting may not be Hawkins or the Upside Down, we still get the tease of pre-teen kids just having fun, but this time on the Moon.
I guess I’m also just happy to see McKenna Grace in the project. After she got the spotlight in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I’m curious to see how her Earth girl is going to be different from the kids who grew up on the moon. She’s come a long way from playing young Tony Harding and young Captain Marvel.
Watch out for Crater when it hits Disney+ on May 12.
