Despite the critical acclaim that Zootopia received back in 2016, the movie never managed to spawn a sequel. What’s great though, is that we’re getting a couple of animate short films, all following different characters we’ve met in the movie.
Watch this:
Here’s the official description:
“Zootopia+” heads back to the fast-paced mammal metropolis of Zootopia in a short-form series that dives deeper into the lives of some of the Oscar®-winning feature film’s most intriguing residents, including Fru Fru, the fashion-forward arctic shrew; ZPD dispatcher Clawhauser, the sweet-toothed cheetah; and Flash, the smiling sloth who’s full of surprises.
With the movie actually having a variety of memorable characters, it looks like Zootopia+ is going to be leaning in on that idea, with several supporting cast members being put in the spotlight. While we don’t get a look at how Judy and Nick are doing, we do get a return of Judy’s parents, as well as the other hapless creatures that bring Zootopia to life.
I have to say, while all the other episodes look fun a silly, the episode The Godfather of the Bride looks like it’s going to be a Godfather homage to the story of Mr. Big, the mobster Shrew. Even the costumes are ripped straight out of Godfather II.
While it’s not a sequel, I guess it’s going to be fun just coming back to the world of Zootopia. With the heavy themes that the original had, I wonder how Disney would be able to top it with a follow-up.
Catch these incoming episodes of Zootopia+ when it starts streaming on Disney+ on Nov. 9.
