No doubt, one of the most iconic scenes in The Littler Mermaid is when Ariel sings Part of Your World, and the live-action remake from Disney has been teasing that song throughout all the trailers.
Now they’ve released a clip that actually gives us the start of the scene, and we can see Halle Bailey’s Ariel swimming around in her grotto of trinkets. Check this out:
Compared to the original where actress Jodi Benson kind of changes from singing to just saying the lyrics, Bailey does the same thing here, but she switches between which verses are sung and which are spoken. It’s kind of odd to listen to it if you’re so used to the original version, but you can’t deny that Bailey’s vocal range is definitely impressive.
Just for comparison, here’s the original scene from the animated film:
Oddly enough, Disney has been very sparing when it comes to reveals for other songs in the film, but I have a feeling that they’ve been holding them back because they’ve all been VFX-heavy. Hopefully they’ll manage to dazzle when we finally get to see them in the cinema.
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
Catch The Little Mermaid when it comes to cinemas on May 26.
