Christian Bale is a God Killer in New Trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder

Disney+ users are gearing up for the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi later this week, but Marvel has decided to go ahead and give us a new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. Not only does it have more of Thor and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, but it finally gives us a good look at Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher—and he looks insane.

Watch this:

I’ll admit, I was skeptical about Gorr’s design when the toy photos came out, but the trailer really pushes how crazy Bale looks in character. With Marvel having wasted great actors with Mads Mikkelsen and Christopher Eccleston in past films, I’m really hoping that Taika Waititi has managed to get a memorable performance out of Bale when it comes to this movie.

Of course, there’s also the case of Jane Foster. It’s kind of no mystery that Jane isn’t a very compelling character, and I feel like that’s why they wrote her out of Ragnarok. With her taking the Thor mantle though, I hope that she has more of an arc as the previous Thor movies. Hopefully she can hang around the MCU a bit longer this time.

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder comes to theaters on July 8.
