Chris Hemsworth Wants to Control Emotions in New Trailer for Spiderhead

Thor may have never met Spider-Man in the movies, but Chris Hemsworth is set to star in an upcoming Netflix film called Spiderhead. Here’s the first trailer:

Here’s the synopsis:

This is set in the near future, when convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences. When one prisoner finds himself the test patient for a new pharmaceutical capable of generating feelings of love, he begins questioning the reality of his emotions and sets out to discover the truth.

The trailer feels a lot like Ex Machina with Hemsworth taking the Oscar Isaac role of the controlling scientist. Besides him, the movie also has Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett in the cast.

The film is actually based on a New Yorker short story titled Escape from Spiderhead by George Saunders. Besides the star-studded cast, the film also has Joseph Kosinski at the helm, the same director behind Tron: Legacy as well as the critically acclaimed Top Gun: Maverick.

With the release of Top Gun 2 this May and Thor: Love and Thunder this July, you can say that Netflix has definitely honed in on the brand synergy when it comes to Spiderhead. Besides Kosinski and Hemsworth, the film has also managed to get some more reach with Miles Teller, who not only stars in Top Gun: Maverick, but also the limited series The Offer now out on Paramount+.

Though Hemsworth is known for his ‘himbo’ roles, I actually love it when he takes on fun characters. He played the villain in Bad Times at the El Royale, and now we get to see him once again pulling strings in this movie.

Spiderhead is set to premiere on Netflix on June 17.
