Everyone is excited to see Chris Hemsworth come back as Thor in Love and Thunder, but with Captain America and Iron Man retiring in Endgame, fans are wondering where the end is for the God of Thunder.
In a recent interview with Extra (via The Direct), Hemsworth says he’ll be playing the character as long as people want him to. He says:
“I love it, I love it. I’ll come back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage, you know. I love it. My whole career has been based around me playing this character and to come back again and again and play it with different directors and different casts has been an absolute joy. And, yeah, we’ll see what the fans want, and I don’t know, I’m down for whatever is enjoyable and having a good time. That’s what this experience in the Marvel world has been for me, so bring it on.”
With Natalie Portman expected to take on the Thor mantle in the future, fans have been wondering if this could be the last time we see Hemsworth’s version of Thor, but reading the comics, I think we could see Thor take a backseat when it comes to the franchise—maybe take on the Odin role that Anthony Hopkins had in the earlier films.
I would always be open to a Logan-esque film in the future, which follows are centuries older God of Thunder fighting some larger than the universe threat with a magic robot arm; but for now, I think they should give space for Portman’s Thor to shine in the spotlight.
Thor: Love and Thunder comes to theaters on July 8.
