Xolo Maridueña is this new generation’s Karate Kid thanks to Cobra Kai, but he’s set to become his own DC hero with the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. We don’t know when DC is set to give us our first teaser, but we do have a teaser poster just released.
Check it out:

While the whole plot of the film has been kept under wraps, it’s been said that the film will be focusing on the Jaime Reyes version of the character, who is granted powers via an alien suit—kind of like Iron Man, except his origins are extra-terrestrial.
Though I expect Blue Beetle to come with all kinds of powers and gadgets, Cobra Kai has proven that Maridueña is pretty adept at action scenes, so it would make sense that they would want to see him kicking some butt onscreen as well.
If anything, the Blue Beetle film should consider itself pretty lucky. Several projects had found themselves cancelled with the WB takeover, and Batgirl, a movie that had wrapped filming, was cancelled from its release. Blue Beetle was originally supposed to come exclusively to HBO Max before they decided that they would release the film in theaters—and now we’re getting closer to the release than ever.
With an August slate, I’m expecting we could get a trailer sometime around February. With the recent poster drop though, I’m hoping we get a teaser sometime next week—but that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
Blue Beetle comes to theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.
