Paramount may no longer be pursuing a live-action Ninja Turtles film, but they have given Seth Rogen the greenlight to bring back Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles via the animated medium. The movie is set to come out next year, and we have some concept art for the next iterations of Raph, Leo, Mikey, and Don.

The first piece of concept art for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie from Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Mitchells Vs. Machines co-director Jeff Rowe has been released. Overall, really love this concept art! It looks both goofy and fun! pic.twitter.com/xJ5CwG8Pcf

Moving on from the buff turtles of live-action, this animated movie is going for more lean-looking heroes in a half shell. They are keeping some elements from live-action though, like Don’s glasses, and Raph’s full-head bandana. Leo is the most plain-looking turtle of the bunch, but they did give him some braces to add that extra charm.
2023 will usher in a new era of Turtlemania with the theatrical release of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from Seth Rogen, followed by a series of villain-driven @TMNT films exclusively for #ParamountPlus. Cowabunga! pic.twitter.com/pjjEHzIaz1

The reveal also comes with the announcement that some villain-centric TMNT content is also going to be coming to Paramount+. We don’t have any reveal on which villains this will be, but I have a feeling that it will be on bumbling henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady (and their boss Krang). I don’t think a series based on Shredder would be that interesting, but we’ll wait and see what happens.
Going back to TMNT, I think it’s kind of a shame that they didn’t get a third live-action movie. For all its faults, I thought that the turtles were still fun to watch together, and that’s really all that matters. Hopefully this animated movie is able to capture that same kind of fun chemistry.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to come out on Aug. 4, 2023.
