Castlevania Season 4 Episode 7 Recap - The Great Work

Arguments

Ratko reports to Varney that their tracking stone worked on Zamfir, and now they can trace the location of the Underground Court. They argue about who gets to take the credit for the plan. Varney thinks it’s his duty to return Dracula back to earth and present Targoviste to him. It was his destiny and plan all along, and Ratko is just a servant. Ratko calls him out on his delusions, saying he’s a proper soldier in contrast to the petty criminal that is Varney, who only wormed his way up to Dracula’s court.

Varney calls him out as a criminal too, but Ratko refutes him. He’s a clever soldier who doesn’t play games. He goes to war. Placing a tracker on their enemy to know their location is what war is all about. That was his calculated plan, not like Varney’s tactics of being loud and boastful. Ratko calls himself a real vampire as opposed to a criminal. A perfect one.

Varney replies cryptically that he is more than meets the eye. Ratko leaves him with a veiled threat.

Above, Sypha confronts Zamfir about what she’s doing. They want to find the fabled underground court so that they can clean up the city and put it in proper order. Zamfir invites them in, insisting it was her idea and they should follow.

Incoming Danger

The Danesti villagers work in organizing themselves inside Dracula’s castle. Saint Germain surveys its halls and starts inserting magic stones in its bricks and writing runes on the walls. All done with the pretense that he’s admiring the wonders inside.

He stumbles inside Alucard’s room and calls for Dragan to do his part.

Alucard sits on top of the tower spires and senses something in the air. He looks at the children waving at him from below and jumps down to scare them. Greta tells him it’s a nice gesture. These children don’t have anyone who can afford to look after them. Alucard just gave them a story they can laugh about.

She wants to discuss their defenses and provisions and notices that Alucard hasn’t been keeping track of the supplies inside the castle. He invites her in to search for some weapons.

Nearby, Dragan marches his troops for the incoming attack. They carry with them an unfinished Rebis–a creature whose body parts are stitched together by different people.

Delusion

Zamfir takes Trevor and Sypha through a network of tunnels until they reach the password-protected door for the underground court.

Here, they find some of the nobles playing and idling with their treasure hoard. Further up, Zamfir leads them to their leader. Sypha thinks it’s horrible, but Trevor discovers a weapon inside that was once wielded by a renowned vampire hunter. He wonders why these weapons and treasures aren’t used up above where they’re needed.

Trevor steps inside the room and finds that their royalty has been long dead. Zamfir insists that they’re still asleep. Sypha argues that they need to have a proper burial and goes out to look for a priest but Zamfir refuses. She believes that they’ll be saved once the royalty wakes up. She admits that she’s gone insane after seeing Dracula’s attack. Sypha sees suffering in the woman while she spouts her illusions of grandeur.

Trevor starts inspecting the trinkets and magical items stashed inside. Sypha insists to abandon the court and collect their supplies for the people above. Suddenly the ceiling crumbles and breaks, letting Ratko in with a horde of Night creatures.

Night falls in Dracula’s tower as Dragans move in for the attack.

Our Thoughts

Things are now setting up for the final arc and I have no idea what to expect. 3.5/5
