Refuge
Trevor and Sypha retreat in an abandoned home, wanting to be alone for once. Trevor grows tired of constantly reacting and wants some time to think. He doesn’t want to die from something he didn’t choose to be a part of.
Alucard rushes towards the town of Danesti, just as a horde of NIght creatures are breaking through their walls. He slaughters them all with his magical sword and shield, cutting through the carapace-covered creatures like butter. The headwoman Greta welcomes him and laments the passing of their messenger. They’ve been under attack for four days straight and a third of them are already dead.
Greta asks him if he’s willing to help them for as long as it takes. She knows of Alucard’s misgivings, living in a castle alone with dead people displayed outside the door. After a lengthy test of his commitment, Alucard agrees to help.
Count Saint Germain comes out from one of the latrine huts and introduces himself to Alucard. He has been through an interesting journey. In a flashback we see his many travels throughout Europe, introducing himself to many nobles until his excitement grows into a dull weariness. But that changes when he meets a woman who joins him in his search for the Infinite Corridor. Sadly, she was left inside the Corridor on their first excursion.
Once he was able to make it back, Germain falls into a dimension full of intricate libraries and clockwork machines. Here he finds a woman who tells him that his friend is located in another sphere.
The Alchemist
She claims to be an alchemist, something that in her words, Saint Germain isn’t committed to anymore. He is lost with no power and control. Saint Germain demands to know where his friend has gone.
She tells him that the only way to truly control the Infinite Corridor is to create a Rebis: an artificial body that is both man and woman, infused with two souls. The Alchemist hands him a key back to earth and tells him to do what must be done–something that may need summoning, binding, and fusing a being of supernatural horror. She insists that it’s the only way to travel the Corridor with power, something that she has already achieved. In the end, he must sacrifice his morals and ethics, even cause pain to achieve it.
Saint Germain promises he’ll do anything to find her again and confess his feelings. Sometime later he returns to earth in a daze with the key on his neck. He becomes more ruthless in his research, resorting to killing other scholars for their information. Frustration, guilt, and regret sink in as his morality starts to fade in service of his quest.
Regretful Actions
His search ultimately leads him to the search for Dracula’s castle. Varney connects with him via mirror after learning of his research–they become allies in service of the same goal.
Saint Germain starts working with a warrior named Dragan to orchestrate the attacks on Danesti. The plan is to drive villagers into that town while he infiltrates the village as a weary traveler.
Alucard hears another attack incoming, which turns out to be a group of refugees from miles away in need of shelter. Other neighboring villages have been attacked by vampires and Night creatures as well. The fact that the villages are being put to the torch tells them that this is a sustained feeding tactic from the vampires.
Saint Germain suggests that Danesti is currently indefensible. Perhaps using Dracula’s castle as a refuge would be a good choice. Alucard finds himself turning into Belmont again as he’s pressed into a wall.
Our Thoughts
Glad to be reunited with Saint Germain again but I don’t see anything but tragedy in the future of this man. 3.5/5
