The possibility of having a parallel dimension manifests in this chapter of Castle Rock. Also, an explanation to one of the main characters’ origins come to light. In a sequence of various time jumps, the background story reveals that two of them met in a different life. Now, the boundaries between good and evil seem to be a blur. However, the fate of the town now rests within the decisions of three people.
In this week’s episode of Castle Rock, The Kid’s (Bill Skarsgård) strange origin story sheds light on his identity. In his narrative, The Kid is Dr. Henry Deaver, who moved out of the city at a young age. Here, the married Henry expects a child. Also, Molly Strand (Melanie Lynskey) is one of the towns’ successful council members. However, their life changes when a different Henry Deaver (Caleel Harris) appears.
Alternate Life
The lives the main characters live here are comparably different to the ones they have now. Dr. Henry Deaver makes a successful presentation about his new project: a chip that could dampen the effects of Alzheimer’s. However, Alan Pangborn (Scott Glenn), Ruth Deaver’s (Sissy Spacek) partner gives Henry an unexpected call about his father, former Reverend Matthew Deaver’s (Adam Rothenberg) suicide. Because of this, Henry has to go back to the town.
When he arrives, he meets a few familiar faces. Henry’s childhood friend and neighbor, Molly, still lived in the town with her sister. That evening, they head to the bar to catch up on each other’s lives. After this, they head back to their houses. As Henry goes to the basement to turn the power of the house back on, he makes a startling discovery. A young boy claiming to be Henry Deaver sat there, locked in a metal cage. The police arrive in the scene, taking custody of ‘Henry.’ Surprisingly, Dennis Zalewski (Noel Fisher) a local Police Officer, responds to the scene.
The Reverend’s Legacy
When Henry rummages through his father’s belongings, he finds numerous recordings that Matthew made. Eventually, he discovers that Matthew found ‘Henry” who claimed to be his adopted son. Thinking that this is one of Ruth’s deceptions, Matthew locks ‘Henry’ in a cage, testing him and spending time with him. Finally, Henry decides to share this information with Molly. Before they knew it, ‘Henry’ caused trouble at the local Psychological Institution, burning the place down and killing seven people.
At the precinct, Molly and Henry talk to ‘Henry.’ During their conversation, ‘Henry’ hears the strange ringing in his ear. When Molly tries to calm him down, she touches ‘Henry’s’ hand and instantly remembers the memories of her younger self in ‘Henry’s’ timeline. Because of this, she decides to take custody of him. While they drive home, Molly decides to evade Dennis, their police escort. Molly and Henry chase after ‘Henry,’ who ran straight into the woods.
Dennis eventually catches up to them. However, Molly and ‘Henry’ continue to run, so he fires a warning shot into the air. Strangely enough, the bullet hits Molly. Henry held her in his arms before he mysteriously transports into ‘Henry’s’ timeline, on the day Alan Pangborn (Jeffrey Pierce) found him in the middle of the lake.
Castle Rock continues next Wednesday, September 12th, with “Romans” on Hulu.
