Cars on the Road Series Trailer Promises a Wild Ride

Lightning McQueen may have said good-bye to racing in Cars 3 back in 2017, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t get into shenanigans on the road. Just in, Disney Pixar has dropped a new trailer for Cars on the Road featuring McQueen and Mater.

Cars on the Road director Steve Purcell tells Deadline, “The series is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater… Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns.”

Like the trailer suggests, the show will have Lightning and Mater going on a cross-country trip on the way to Mater’s sister. Along the way we should expect different kinds of gags, ranging from a haunted mansion filled with ghost cars, and a Mad Max-esque car show.

Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy are back to reprise their roles as Lightning and Mater. It would also be great if we actually got a guest appearance from Lightning’s protégé Cruz Ramirez, who we saw take his spot on the track after he became too old to race.

While the book on Cars has closed when it comes to the box office, I think a series would still be some great fun for adults. If they do make a fourth movie though, I would love to follow the adventures of Cruz with Lightning as her mentor.

Catch Cars on the Road when the series comes to Disney+ on Sept. 8
