Camila Cabello to Make Acting Debut in the New 'Cinderella' Remake

Havana singer-songwriter Camila Cabello is set to make her first cameo on screen in the new Cinderella produced by James Corden (via The Hollywood Reporter). Cabello will not only be featured in the film. The Grammy-nominated artist is also said to be involved in the film’s music.

The film’s concept of the new Cinderella came from Corden’s story treatment. Sony’s Columbia label backed up the project with Leo Pearlman on board producing alongside Corden through their Fulwell 73 banner. Sony is putting production on the fast track. Details of the film’s plot are under lock and key. But the story is described as a modern take on a traditional tale, with an added musical flare.

This comes to no surprise from The Late Late Show host James Corden, mostly known for his Carpool Karaoke segments. Corden is also quite the musical buff. He also starred in the fairytale-based on-screen adaptation of Into the Woods back in 2015.

Emmy Winning writer Kay Cannon will direct Corden’s take on the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Cannon is known for being a writer in shows like 30 Rock and New Girl. But she is no stranger to musical-themed movies. She previously wrote the musical-comedy Pitch Perfect starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. Cannon made her directorial debut with Blockers, a comedy starring Kathryn Newton and John Cena.

The Fifth Harmony singer turned solo artist hit the top of the charts with the release of her single Havana. The song became Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by a solo female artist with about a billion streams. Her album Camila made it to the top of big music charts such as the Billboard 200, Hot 100, and Artist 100 charts in the same week.  It also debuted at the top of the 110 iTunes charts around the world.
