'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 6 Premiere 'Honeymoon' Recap: No Hoots

Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s hottest couple just got married, deserving a full-blown celebration. As the force celebrates their union, one of their valued members also has an announcement. However, things are not as bright as the couple’s future. Eventually, the couple goes on a honeymoon, but not the one they had hoped.

In the season premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, newlyweds Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Sergeant Amy Santiago-Peralta (Melissa Fumero) go on a honeymoon. Meanwhile, Captain Ray Holt’s (Andre Braugher) disappointment over not getting his promotion prompts him to take a leave of absence. With that, Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) takes the helm of the Nine-Nine.

With Captain Holt taking an indefinite leave, Sergeant Terry becomes the Officer-in-Charge. With that, Detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) asks for his help. Rosa is working on a drug case for about two months, and the Department of Sanitation wishes to take the case from her since some of the evidence came from a dumpster. Unsure with what to do (although visibly in denial), Terry tries to look for the captain’s manual.

After a series of ridiculous attempts at finding the manual, Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) eventually gave Rosa the manual. However, Terry was the solution all along. Captain Holt trusted Terry entirely and stated in his manual to consult Terry in the event of his absence. Upon reading this, Terry gives Rosa specific instructions on how to deal with the situation. Top Dog Terry is back.

Parent’s Divorce

Detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) decides to confront Gina when he finds out that their parents divorced. Knowing that it would crush his father, Boyle asks Gina to help him get their parents back together. However, Gina does not seem interested at all, so Boyle devises a plan of his own. He senses that Gina has something to do with the divorce.

With the help of Detectives Michael Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Norm Scully (Joel Mckinnon Miller), Gina gets distracted. Boyle finally has his chance to check Gina’s phone. He uses a printed mask of Gina’s face to unlock the phone, but Gina catches up to him. When Boyle fools Gina into unlocking the phone, his suspicions prove to be right. He finds the text thread between Gina and her mom, where Gina tells her mom to divorce Boyle’s dad.

Gina’s seemingly selfish reason to coerce her mom was more than what it looked. Gina caught her mom cheating on Boyle’s dad. She thought that this was disgusting, hence the divorce. Boyle realizes that Gina turns out to be protecting them, so he thanks Gina for her actions.

Honeymoon with their Boss

Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6, Episode 1

Jake and Amy did not expect to run into Captain Holt at the resort, much less since it is their honeymoon. Holt decided to head to the resort to get his mind off not getting the promotion. Also, he was always around Jake and Amy, making it awkward. Because of this, Amy thought of a way to make Holt happy so he would return home.

Including Holt in the activities that they scheduled started weird at first, but it worked. By the time they only had one event left, Holt felt quite happy. However, Holt may have been returning, but not to go back to work. He was tendering his resignation as soon as he got back. Hearing this, Jake locks Holt in his and Amy’s room just as Amy got prepared to get kinky.

Despite the awkwardness, Jake and Amy try to convince Holt not to leave the force. Although their convincing turned into a heated argument, Holt has a different realization. As Holt apologizes, he also tells Jake and Amy his new plan: He ‘won’t give a hoot,’ meaning that he will go after the appointed commissioner and his ‘revitalized crime reduction plan.’ When they finally got back to work, Holt did manage to have the Mayor reconsider the new commissioner’s plan, but it did have consequences. The commissioner had to retaliate. Now, Brooklyn Nine-Nine had to share offices with the NYPD.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 6 Premiere ‘Honeymoon’ Final Verdict

Awesome kick-starter to the sixth season. This show’s brand of cop comedy is on point. The character’s hilarious dialogues fit in well with the scenarios that they find themselves in. Now that their holidays and me-times are over, they have a different problem to deal with, plus a tough contender to beat.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues Thursday, January 17th, with ‘Hitchcock and Scully’ at 9/10c on NBC.
