'Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6, Episode 4 'Four Movements' Recap: Part Ways

After reuniting with High School BatchmatesBrooklyn Nine-Nine‘s unsolicited advice giver decides to leave and begin a new chapter in life. The Nine-Nine generally feels sad about parting ways, while some express much worry. Because of this, each member of the squad experiences a ‘moment’ from no other than their wayward friend.

In this week’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) announces her departure from the Nine-Nine. Because of this, Amy Santiago-Peralta (Melissa Fumero) and -surprisingly- Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) become emotional. Meanwhile, Gina gives Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Terry Jefford (Terry Crews) unexpected life lessons.

First Movement

Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) is the first to receive his ‘moment.’ He and Gina spent the most time together since Gina is his secretary. During her last days working in the Nine-Nine, Gina taught Captain Holt how to trash talk while Holt taught her how to play chess. In their final game, Holt tries to convince Gina to reconsider her resignation. However, in the end, Gina lets Holt realize that she will be alright. Holt worried deeply about Gina, but the end of their game showed him that she is confident and ready to move on to a different step in life.

Amy, emotional as she is, asks Gina and Rosa to have lunch before Gina left. Gina, however, wanted Amy to learn how to be like Rosa, emotionless and cold, so she takes her up on her offer but gives an unprecedented change. Amy made a compilation of Gina’s tweets as a gift to her, but Gina did not want to keep it. Instead, she wanted Amy to burn it, since it would help her become more chill, like her and Rosa. Amy could not bring herself to do it. With that, Gina announces that this was Amy’s ‘Gina Moment.’ Gina knew Amy for years, and she did not want her to change one bit.

Third Movement

Jake wanted to throw Gina a spectacular send-off party, so he made plans to rent an expensive venue and have a celebrity guest. While the venue plan did not follow through, Gina and Jake still had a chance at inviting a celebrity guest. Thanks to Intel from Terry’s friend who works in private security, Gina and Jake knew where to find (Guest Star) Mario Lopez, one of their idols. It took much effort, like putting on disguises and getting pummelled by security, but Gina and Jake managed to convince Mario to go to the send-off party.

Gina’s party eventually happened at Shaw’s Bar, the Nine-Nine’s favorite hangout. As Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) performed his weird circus act, Mario arrives. However, Gina sends him away. Surprised, Jake asks her why she did such a thing. This instance was Jake’s ‘Gina Moment’: Gina did not need a celebrity guest of an expensive venue, she just needed her friends at her send-off party.

Fourth Movement

Terry wondered when he would have his ‘Gina Moment,’ since everyone else seemed to have theirs. Also, he noticed that a week later, Gina was still at the precinct. Little did they know that Gina was stalling for one last surprise, hence her strange excuses to stay at the precinct. As the Nine-Nine gang up to encourage Gina, they walk up to a golden statue of her standing in the middle of the precinct. A laptop beside it had a video message from Gina, telling Terry that she enrolled him in an International Yogurt Club. Also, Gina wishes that her statue, despite its inaccuracies, would remind them of her. With that, Gina tells them that she will miss them and she loves them, one last time.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 6, Episode 4 ‘Four Movements’ Final Verdict

This episode was a heartfelt goodbye to the unique character, Gina Linetti. Also, it perhaps is the most ‘Gina’ episode of all time. It is in no way sad, despite her character leaving the show. The happy ending is fitting for her role, as all she brought to the Nine-Nine is five seasons worth of smiles and laughter.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues Thursday, February 7th, with ‘A Tale of Two Bandits’ at 9/10c on NBC.
