Brooklyn Nine-Nine evades an attempt to wipe their servers, thanks to the detectives’ quick thinking. Now, an old friend asks for a favor after receiving strange death threats. Meanwhile, the Captain notices much potential in a child who surprisingly solves a complicated math problem. On the other hand, one learns the value of asking for help while the other realizes the importance of persistence.
On Thursday night’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) asks Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) to be her police escort in her first speaking engagement. Meanwhile, Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) recognizes Nikolaj Boyle’s (Antonio Raul Corbo) mathematical genius, telling Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) to nurture this gift. At the station, Amy Santiago-Peralta (Melissa Fumero) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) deal with Rosa’s injured hands.
Responsible Parenting
In the briefing room, Captain Holt calls Charles to have his input on the equation he is making. The mathematical sentence aims to determine which part of Brooklyn needs more policing compared to the others. While Holt and Charles discussed the problem, Nikolaj sneaks in and starts writing on the whiteboard. To both Holt and Charles’ surprises, Nikolaj comes up with the solution to the problem. Because of this, Captain Holt decides to tutor Nikolaj since he wants Nikolaj’s talent put to good use. Charles, on the other hand, decides to have Nikolaj drop his art classes to have time for Holt’s tutoring.
Later that day, Captain Holt approaches Charles, telling him that Nikolaj needs a better tutor than he is. Nikolaj even thought of Holt’s periodic table as a coloring book illustration. When Captain Holt suggests a school in Switzerland capable of teaching Nikolaj, Charles asks Nikolaj what he wants to do. Holt and Charles find him doodling the symbol he wrote on the whiteboard which was not the absolute value of sine. At least, not to Nikolaj. Instead, it was the emblem of a superhero he made. Realizing the mistake, Holt apologizes to Charles for calling a lousy parent. Also, he recognizes Nikolaj’s proficiency in art, citing the periodic table that he colored. Indeed, Charles is a supportive father.
Help and Independence
When Rosa arrived at the station with bandaged hands, Amy offered to help her with her office work. However, Rosa turned the offer down, insisting that she can do things on her own. Throughout the day, Rosa struggled with using the computer and even manages to spill soda on the floor. Despite this, she remains firm in cleaning up after herself. Rosa then found herself locked in the storage room as she went there to get sponges.
Amy offered to help her once more, but Rosa did not budge. Sometime later, Rosa accepts her defeat and then asks Amy to help her. However, Amy watched Rosa from the security camera, realizing that one should not give up. As Amy encourages Rosa to open the door, Rosa uses her chin on the knob, and it surprisingly works. With the door finally open, Amy proudly hugs Rosa before helping her out when using the restroom.
Priorities
After Gina left the Nine-Nine, she became an Online Sensation, quickly influencing people to follow after her life lessons. Along with her fame came death threats, so in her first public appearance, she asks Jake and Terry to be her police escorts. At first, Terry thinks that Gina is only asking them for a favor, not calling them because they are her friends. When Gina does not make it to the bar where they arranged to meet, Terry’s assumptions did not seem too harsh.
The day for Gina’s event finally came, and Terry and Jake stood guard inside. Since the main threat to Gina was some guy who called himself an inspirational chef, Gina did not take it seriously. However, when the decorative ball falls on the podium as soon as Jake pulls her away from it, she realizes how real the threat was. Luckily, Terry, Jake, and Gina make it back to her place in time. As Gina called her Agent to celebrate, he reminds her of the deal she sealed last night, the same night she was supposed to go out with Jake and Terry.
Before the event, Jake was about to point out that she has no time for her friends anymore until she lied to them about having food poisoning, putting the blame to her assistant who did not tell them. Now that the truth is out, Jake and Gina argued up until someone stabbed Gina’s back. At the hospital, Jake and Terry realize that the perp is the ex-husband of one of Gina’s followers, out for revenge. With Jake and Gina reconciled, they decided to surprise Terry that night as they had drinks. Terry’s old college friend, Bryan Ungerbert (Ian Stanley) gave Terry a long overdue hug.
