'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 6, Episode 13 'The Bimbo' Recap: Kerfuffle

After a lengthy break, Brooklyn Nine-Nine returned with a Wedding Anniversary spent in a hospital. The couples theme of the show does not seem to stop there. This time around, a seemingly emotionless couple has the limelight. When one asks the Nine-Nine’s most excellent detective for help, the Captain cannot help but be involved. After all, one cannot ignore his husband’s problems, especially if he asks help from your son-like employee.

On Thursday Night’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Kevin Cozner (Marc Evan Jackson) asks for Jake Peralta’s (Andy Samberg) help in a case at work. However, Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) finds out about their arrangement despite them being discreet. Meanwhile, Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) and Amy Santiago-Peralta (Melissa Fumero) have a competition about who can make the best squad lunch.

Boosting Morale

Because of both the broken freezer as well as their precinct’s slashed budget, Amy decides to take her squad out for lunch. Seeing this as a challenge, Terry does the same for his team. While Amy thought of it as a way to boost morale, it quickly became another competition. Each of them would think of the fanciest way to have lunch. Officially, Michael Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Norm Scully (Joel McKinnon-Miller) became their judges. With that, the strange battle for the stick on their respective sides of the whiteboard began.

Eventually, both Terry and Amy’s squads grew tired of the competition. It became more of a way for Amy and Terry to show off rather than boost their squads’ morale. Because of this, both teams decided to hide from Amy and Terry. When the two Sergeants find them, they realize the mistakes they made. To make it up to their teammates, Amy and Terry bought two-ply toilet paper for the restroom and converted the briefing room into ‘The Lunch Zone,’ complete with charging ports and noise canceling headphones. Their fellow officers thought that it perfectly suits what they think of as an ideal lunch break.

Underestimated

Jake wonders why Kevin asked for his help in a case instead of asking Captain Holt. Initially, Kevin reasons out that Holt tends to be emotional when it comes to him, so Jake agrees to help Kevin. However, Holt gets a whiff of what they are planning, so he visits Kevin at his workplace in the university. Eventually, the truth of the situation comes out. Kevin’s co-workers, notably Dean Wesley Allister (Oliver Muirhead) has a low opinion of Holt due to an embarrassing Christmas party encounter.

Dean Allister may have humiliated them twice, but Jake kept on encouraging Holt. They continued to study the case of the missing historical coins no matter how hard Allister shut them down. Their dedication to the case, as well as their combined detective skills, pay off when they solve the case. The same person who reported finding one coin, Janitor Randy (Bob Stephenson) is the culprit. The evidence they found proves true to their assessment, so they arrest Randy in front of everyone to see. Also, Kevin demanded his co-workers to respect Holt after they made the arrest. To Kevin, Holt uses his intellect to make the city a better place; a standard that Kevin hopes to achieve and is proud to say about his husband.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 6, Episode 13 ‘The Bimbo’ Final Verdict

The fans missed Kevin quite sorely, so the idea of bringing him back made them happy. Also, we rarely get to see a side of Captain Holt where he feels inferior and vulnerable. His character in this episode became very human and very lovable as if he was not that lovable already. Once again, we get kernels of the ongoing conflict between the Nine-Nine and Commissioner Kelly. That evil old man is yet to strike back at Holt and his team after his last defeat.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues Thursday, April 25th with ‘Ticking Clocks’ at 9/8c on NBC.
