Brooklyn Nine-Nine is home to the force’s arguably most eager Sergeant as well as the Detective/Playwright. Their talents equally present themselves as the Nine-Nine uses them to solve a few crimes: a setup and a potential informant. Now, a detective’s instincts tell her to dig deeper into a murder case. Meanwhile, the Playwright deals with the troubles of adoption.
In this week’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Charles Boyle’s (Joe Lo Truglio) son, Nikolaj (Antonio Raul Corbo), whom he adopted, meets his birth father, Gintars (Ike Barinholtz). Seeing Charles worry about his relationship with Nikolaj, Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) decides to make decisions to help Charles on his own. Meanwhile, Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) need the FBI’s help in solving a murder case. However, Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) and Amy Santiago-Peralta (Melissa Fumero) insist on calling Dr. Ronald Yee (Reggie Lee) to the scene instead.
The Flies Don’t Lie
Great minds think alike. In the Nine-Nine’s case, these ‘great minds’ belong to Holt and Amy. When Terry and Rosa ask fro Holt’s help in requesting for the FBI’s involvement in Rosa’s murder case, Holt and Amy think of one person: Dr. Ronald Yee. Dr. Yee is a renowned innovator in the forensic line of work, particularly for his research on blood-detecting flies. Since Terry and Rosa needed a re-sweep of the crime scene for blood samples, Holt and Amy thought the flies could help since they can detect blood hidden to the human eye. Also, they both are huge fans of Dr. Yee’s works. Meanwhile, the thought of having bugs around him scared Terry to the point that he does questionable things to be sure that none live on him.
Holt and Amy eagerly awaited Dr. Yee’s arrival at the station. Wanting everything to look perfect, Holt urges Terry to exit the briefing room, seeing that he had his eyebrows shaved. Finally, Dr. Yee arrived, showing off the bugs to them. Soon, they reach the crime scene. Dr. Yee’s biggest fans watch in awe of the procedure.
On the other hand, Terry and Rosa stood, unamused by what they thought of as a waste of time. The flies found nothing of interest, and this further made Terry and Rosa’s beliefs against them stronger. However, both Holt and Amy negate what Rosa says as they firmly believe in the flies’ capabilities. Back at the station, Rosa and Terry finally find a way to get the murder suspect to confess to his crimes; using the flies to intimidate him. At the same time, the duo figures out that Dr. Yee and his flies are a fraud as they test the flies on Michael Hitchcock’s (Dirk Blocker) blood.
Terry and Rosa soon decide to break Holt, Amy, and Dr. Yee’s chitchat with their findings. True enough, Dr. Yee admits to being a fraud, saying that he used a melted popsicle to attract the flies. Thirty minutes after Holt and Amy’s attempted apology, Rosa also reveals that they solved the case. However, this sparks the least expected result: Holt and Amy excitedly call Dr. Yee to tell him about what happened.
Daddy Gintars
Jake and Charles pleasantly walked outside when Jake senses someone following them. After hiding in a group of old tourists, Jake and Charles catch their stalker: Gintars, the birth father of Charles’ adopted son, Nikolaj. Gintars offered Charles an action figure to give to Nikolaj, clearly stating his purpose: he wants to get to know his biological son. Jake and Charles reluctantly take Gintars to the precinct with them, unsure of what to do.
Finally deciding what to do, Jake and Charles agree to let Gintars see Nikolaj under one condition: he must not tell Nikolaj that he is his biological father. However, Gintars uncontrollably spills the beans, marking the start of Charles’ ten days of agony. In those ten days, Charles felt that Nikolaj would want to leave him and join Gintars instead. Jake could not bear to watch Charles in pain, so he decides to take the situation into his own hands.
One of the first things that Gintars tells them is that he owns a clothing line called ‘Gape,’ insisting that ‘Gap’ stole and made a profit out of ‘Gape’s’ designs. Jake only needed Gintars to confess that he runs ‘Gape’ and have it recorded on tape to have him deported. Luckily, Jake fools Gintars into going to the Russian Bath with him, getting his confession on tape.
To have the cops catch him selling counterfeit clothes red-handed, Jake sets a meet-up in a public place. Unexpectedly, Charles shows up, bringing Nikolaj with him. Charles accepted that Gintars is and will be a part of Nikolaj’s life, so he let them spend time with each other. However, the cops arrive and arrest Gintars, making Jake regret his decision.
Fortunately, things get sorted out for them. Gintars and Nikolaj spent time together one last time before he left the country. Jake apologizes to Charles for what happened, saying that he only wished for him to feel better. Charles points out that he wants Jake to listen to him, not solve his every problem for him. The Nine-Nine’s studs get past this problem as they happily wore their ‘best bud’ hats— although it is too small for them.
