Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) uncovers his father’s secret. As it turns out, he has a half-sister living on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas. In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Season 5, Episode 17, titled “DFW,” Jake flies his sister to spend some time with him in New York. But as it turns out, his sister is not what he expects. In an unfortunate turn of events, Katie Peralta (Nasim Pedrad) decides to stay in New York for good—at least that’s what she thinks.
Peralta From Another Motha
While Jake and Amy await Katie’s arrival, Jake feels a little cynical about the situation. He begins to overthink things. What if her half sister is a total opposite of him? When Katie arrived, she did it in style. And by “in style,” it means “in handcuffs” and “dragged by the police.” Jake goes back to being pessimistic about the whole idea of a far-off family.
In a restaurant, Jake catches up with Katie and Amy. But as it turns out, Katie is a true con artist. In an attempt to pay for their dinner, Katie whips up a Ziploc full of broken glass. She puts glass on her finished plate and screams that there’s glass in her food.
That night, Katie brings home a street performer to Jake’s and Amy’s apartment. Katie mentioned earlier that she would like to experience the real New York. Again, by “real New York,” Katie meant taking tourist pictures like a usual tourist. When Jake and Amy is about to go to sleep, they overhear cluttering in the living room. As it turns out, Katie and a street performer named William (Michael Daniel Cassady) are having sex.
The next day, Katie decides that she should live in New York. She also thinks that Jake contacting her was an escape from Dallas. Jake isn’t pleased with the idea. Instead, he plans to get rid of Katie in the most natural way. Jake traces Katie’s ex in Dallas. A guy named Kurt (Kirk Fox) turns out to be a prisoner from Dallas. Jake flew him into New York.
Katie spots Kurt in the street while they come home from a trip. Back in the apartment, all is well. Katie packed her bags and is ready to go. But the street performer, William, comes in because he left his wallet in the living room. Kurt finds out that William and Katie had sex. Katie cheated on him, and that made him mad about it. Kurt leaves Katie and never looks back.
Meanwhile, Katie finds out about Jake’s plan of getting rid of her, making her mad. Katie leaves the apartment and heads home to Dallas. But before her flight, Jake saves her from another act. Katie sliced her hand with a broken glass so she could get upgraded to business class. But someone saw her slit her fingers with a shard. Jake tells the police that he got it from there. He asked Katie for an apology and sets her free.
Lesbian Matchmaking
Meanwhile, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) gets annoyed by Gina (Chelsea Peretti). Gina insists that she brews a date for the now-single Rosa. However, Rosa believes that Gina is no good for this kind of thing. She’s a lousy matchmaker.
Throughout the day, Gina bugged Rosa about her plans of getting Rosa a date. But Rosa declines the offer, but not until Gina brings out her synthesizer with recorded vocals of Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher). As it turns out, Gina recorded Captain Holt’s voice for two years so she could make any sentence in Captain Holt’s voice.
With the synthesizer, Gina summons Rosa to the briefing room. Gina made a presentation of the possible dates that Rosa could take. But Rosa is still hesitant about Gina’s skills in matchmaking. In the end, Rosa gives Gina a chance. But this is the only chance Gina’s going to get. Although that’s the case, Gina says she only needs a shot to get things right
Gina sets up Rosa with a blond chick named Irene (Amanda Rea). When they ordered drinks, Rosa spots the bartender named Aubrey. In the morning, Rosa comes in late. Gina sees her from a distance and questions her about time. Gina slips and admits that Irene wasn’t the setup—it was Aubrey.
Caught off-guard, Rosa admits that she and Aubrey had fun. In fact, they will be having dinner again that night. She also realizes that Gina is an excellent matchmaker, despite all hesitations.
