Following Alec Baldwin’s abrupt role departure from the Joker movie as Thomas Wayne, Brett Cullen has stepped in to fill in the key Batman character, according to ComicBook.com.
Baldwin cited scheduling conflict as his reason for leaving the role. Cullen, on the other hand, is no stranger to comic book movies (let alone the Batman movie universe). He previously played Johnny Blaze’s father, Barton Blaze, in 2007’s Ghost Rider. Cullen was also seen in The Dark Knight Rises where he played a congressman.
It’s exciting to see what Cullen will bring to the role of Thomas Wayne. The Joker movie is said to have a much darker tone that’s borderline crime noir. The role is also described by The Hollywood Reporter as “a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.” Joker will also show a young Bruce Wayne, years before his parents were shot in an alley.
Earlier this week, The Joker director Todd Phillips shared a first look photo of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur, AKA The Joker, seemingly confirming that the character’s name will be Arthur Fleck. Several leaked set photos of Phoenix in character as Arthur were also released, showing him interacting with a clown.
The Joker is currently in production and is slated for an October 4, 2019 release.
