Brendan Fraser is Heartbreaking in Official Trailer for The Whale

Brendan Fraser was said to have received a standing ovation for The Whale at the Venice International Film Festival, and now A24 is ready for general audiences to check out the film.

Just in, we have a new trailer for The Whale, and it showcases the three main parts of Fraser, Sadie Sink, and Hong Chau. Check this out:

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

An obese and reclusive English teacher tries to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.

The movie is actually based on the 2012 play of the same name for Samuel D. Hunter, with Hunter adapting his original script for the big screen. Though we do get a lot of serious moments in the trailer for Fraser’s character Charlie, the play itself is known to have some comedic moments; which is kind of hinted at with the joke that Charlie’s internal organs are 2-feet deep.

If you’re familiar with director Darren Arnofsky’s work, you’ll know that he has a penchant for capturing human suffering with films like The Wrestler, mother!, and Requiem for a Dream. Though the play does have its comedy moments, I’m expecting Aronofsky to have the drama throttle all the way up to eleven, and I’m sure fans will be leaving the cinema in tears (or possibly pretty disturbed).

Catch The Whale when it swims into theaters this Dec. 21.
