The Predator Actor Boyd Holbrook expressed his support for co-star Olivia Munn Monday about a deleted scene where Munn shared the screen with registered sex offender Steven Wilder Striegel.
Following the news about Munn’s discovery of Striegel’s history as a registered sexual offender, Holbrook released a statement via a representative a weekend after the actress addressed the situation to the reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“I want to start by apologizing for this statement coming late in the current conversation,” says Holbrook’s statement. “I do not take any of what has gone on lightly, and I want to speak from the most honest and genuine place possible. I have stated before, and I will state it again, I am proud of Olivia for the way that she handled a difficult and alarming situation, and I am grateful that Fox took the information seriously and took action swiftly.”
The Predator director Shane Black offered the said scene to Striegel as a personal friend without disclosing the latter’s sex offender status to the cast and the studio.
According to TheWrap, Holbrook was the second Predator cast member to show support to Munn since the start of the controversy. Sterling K. Brown first backed the actress Saturday, expressing that she “did the right thing.”
“I now realize that my understanding of the situation was not the full picture and the last thing I want is for Olivia to ever feel abandoned or alone. We are in the midst of a very crucial and important time, and it is imperative that we keep listening,” Holbrook added.
Since reporting her findings to Fox last month, Munn says she hasn’t heard personally from Black regarding the decision of Striegel’s cameo. The director, however, has since apologized in a public statement for his error in judgment.
“Getting a convicted sex offender out of a movie that has a global reach is extremely important, but the reality of what I’ve had to go through in this process of just finding out, it’s a crazy thing,“ Munn told Vanity Fair. “It’s like I stumbled upon something and now I’m being chased by everyone and isolated.”
