We predicted a shake up in the top five this week and it looks like we got it. While Reel Steel managed to hold on to the top spot, newcomers Footloose and The Thing knocked George Clooney’s under-performing political thriller The Ides of March into fourth position. Footloose performed admirably, while Universal’s remake/prequel/whatever we’re calling it now of John Carpenter’s 1984 scifi horror The Thing did not, bringing in a scant $8.8M on its opening weekend. Fox’s bird watching comedy, The Big Year, starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin also failed to impress on its opening weekend bringing in a scant $3.3M and earning 9th place.
