Box Office Icon Rita Moreno Joins Cast of Fast X

After some crisis with the departure of Justin Lin, Fast X is now moving forward, and a new cast member has been announced in the form of one box office icon.

As Vin Diesel has announced on Instagram, EGOT winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story), has joined the cast of Fast X. She’ll be officially joining the ‘family’ in the form of Dom, Mia, and Jakob’s grandmother. Here’s the post:

“It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile. I am so blessed,” said Diesel. Moreno replied, “You know what…I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn’t that nice? And I’m here—and the answer is yes, I’ll do it, and yes, not only do it. I’m tickled. I’m so thrilled. This is going to be such fun!” 

At 90-years-old, we don’t really expect Moreno to be doing any action scenes in Fast X, but I suspect that she could be there for some ‘family’ scenes that all of these Fast movies have. I guess there’s a chance that they can still shoot her behind the wheel, but I’m sure they can have some stunt drivers perform any dangerous scenes. You can imagine the huge outcry if something should happen to the Broadway legend on the set of a Fast movie.

Despite the delay, it looks like Fast X will be able to make its intended release date. We don’t know why Justin Lin would leave a project after so much history, but we’ll just have to wait for the final product to see if it was worth it.
