'Booster Gold' Writer Zack Stentz Says Film is Awaiting Greenlight from Warner Bros.

Booster Gold is ready to hit the big screen. The upcoming film’s scriptwriter, Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class, The Flash), recently revealed in a podcast interview that the DC movie now has a script and is only awaiting the go signal from Warner Bros.

Plans for a solo Booster Gold movie began shaping up in 2015, with Arrowverse visionary Greg Berlanti being eyed to produce and potentially direct the film. In 2018, Berlanti confirmed that the movie is still in development, with no significant news about the cast or its main premise—until now. Stentz was handed the writing duties in 2016, and he’s confident that the screenplay is ready for production.

In an interview with Revenge of the Fans‘ The Fanboy Podcast, the Booster Gold scribe gave a few juicy details about the upcoming DC movie entry. While promoting his YA Netflix film, Rim of the World, Stentz confirmed that the script is done, offering a few more details about the movie.

“I do not know what’s going on with it right now, honestly. And I don’t know if the DC people know what’s going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how […] most recent movie did,” Stentz says. “But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it’s something that’s ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the greenlight to it. The ball is in their court.”

It’s been confirmed that Booster Gold will not be following the DC Extended Universe timeline, rather following the track of current successful solo films like Aquaman and Shazam. Incidentally, a Blue Beetle movie is also in development with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer attached to write the script. A known partner to Booster Gold, the solo Blue Beetle film will reportedly focus on the Jaime Reyes iteration of the character. This marks the first time that DC will feature a superhero movie led by a Latino protagonist.

Plot and production details on the Booster Gold movie are still kept under wraps.
