BONES: Exclusive Scoop on

It's the serial killer arc we've all been waiting for ever since Bones EP Michael Peterson uttered the words "Big Bad" on a recent conference call.

“The Monster in the Closet” will see the Jeffersonian investigating the decomposing body of a social worker in the park. So far so regular episode of Bones, right?

However the investigation takes a big jump to the left when the collected evidence suggests the killer lived with the body for months before dumping it.

Things get even more complicated when they realize another set of cold case remains in Limbo share details which link both victims to a serial murderer who had sinister interactions with his victims’ bodies.

The episode welcomes back behavioral analyst Karen Delfs (guest star Sara Rue) who cuts through the seriousness of this week's installment by bringing some much needed levity to proceedings.

Meanwhile, Pej Vahdat's Arastoo also returns, prompting Cam to make a decision about what and who she wants most in her life.

We've seen the episode a little early, thanks to our friends at FOX, and have a number of teasers to share with you. As usual, we have chosen to avoid outright revelations and plot points that could take away from your experience of the episode. However, we urge you to exercise your regular degree of caution around spoilers, because this is the internet and who are these ScreenSpy people anyway?

Them Bones, Them Bones

Remember that part earlier where we mentioned how Brennan’s guilt would send her into forensic overdrive searching for clues to the killer’s identity? In an interesting scene this Thursday we will see Brennan carefully reassembling, dressing and posing the bones of the latest victim —  just as the killer did — in an attempt to get inside his head.

When we last spoke to Michael Peterson, the Bones Showrunner spoke about this episode and this moment in particular saying:

“Episode 13 is pretty much our ‘Big Bad’ for the remainder of the season. We will be seeing that person again. That was one I wrote, and it was a story-line the show lends itself really well to because of Bones dealing with skeletal remains and so forth.

I’ve been re-watching a lot of Hitchcock, and Psycho in particular, and I was thinking about how people like that who live with remains and see them as being alive are actually very similar in a way to Brennan. It’s a unique perspective. We really wanted to look at the flip side of that coin — and to get a nice little bit of that creepy feel.

The inspiration for this little homage was an X-Files episode called “Home” which meant a lot to me. It was a big reason why I wanted to do TV. They did a great job in that episode of juxtaposing happy music with creepiness. We do a little homage to that in there also.”

But it’s not just Peterson who sees the similarities between Brennan’s careful and meticulous work and the show’s latest killer. It seems killer thinks so too.
