Blue Beetle Set Photos of Xolo Mariduena Leak Online

Xolo Mariduena is essentially this generation’s Karate Kid, but besides Cobra Kai, he’s found himself the star of DCEU’s Blue Beetle film. The movie is currently undergoing production, and set photos of Mariduena in costume have leaked online.

I’ll admit, the head looks a tad large, but I suspect that they’ll be able to shrink it down with the actual film. You can also see that there’s a very alien-like quality to the suit—which suggests the Beetle’s alien origin.

What I noticed is that the suit kind of has a Blue Deadpool look to it, especially with how the way the eyes came out. Then again, it’s very close to what we have in the comics. I’m also kind of thankful they decided not to give him a mouth—unless they plan to CGI that in in the final film.

Though there have been multiple incarnations of Blue Beetle in the comics, Mariduena will be playing the Jaime Reyes version of BB, who was introduced in the Infinite Crisis comics. There were rumors going around that this film would be a buddy-comedy with Booster Gold, but since we haven’t gotten any updates on that, I think it’s safe to say this is going to be a solo outing for Blue Beetle.

Hopefully Booster does make an appearance down the line, as I’ve already jumped in on the fancast of Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis as the time-travelling egotist from the future.

Blue Beetle is aiming for a theatrical release on Aug. 18, 2023.
