Blood of Zeus Season 1 Episode 8 Recap - War for Olympus

Too Far Gone

The giants slowly march in full force towards Olympus. Hera appears and meets them first. Some try to attack, but Hera merely responds by absorbing their souls into the Cauldron.

She asks them to help kill Zeus and offers the sea in return. Poseidon sees this and hides. Zeus manages to revive himself by cauterizing his wound with lightning. Poseidon rides the water, carrying Apollo’s body to meet with him. He wants to join them now that Hera’s gone too far.

Zeus plans to attack by distracting Hera and having someone else find the Cauldron. Heron volunteers to go as he wouldn’t be an obvious choice.

The gods arm themselves, and the automatons prepare their machines for war. Alexia and the others pick their weapons from the god’s armory. Apollo gives Heron a special bow made by Hephaestus.

The ground shakes beneath, them heralding the giant’s arrival along with their demon minions. Hera’s faction and Seraphim get ready to face Zeus’ own.

Evios confesses that it was them who smuggled the giant’s remains. This is their redemption.

The War

Zeus addresses his forces and commands them to attack. Hermes creates a dust storm to blind the enemy to the troops’ advance, but the giant’s size makes it easy for them to get smashed. Zeus hurls lightning from above and tells Heron that it is time to prove himself to the world.

The humans ride inside a sphere-like device to sneak behind enemy lines. Heron shoots a signal flare that signals their arrival, and Zeus drops into the battlefield to gain the enemy’s attention. Poseidon commands Olympus’ waters to drown the armies below while Zeus plunges inside to electrocute the demons. But then Hera arrives and smashes Zeus’ head from behind.

The humans raid a small camp to search for the Cauldron, but it’s not there. They realize that Hera’s crows are carrying it, and Heron rides the griffon to pursue them and shoots at the flock.

Zeus tells Hera that she’s up for betrayal. She drowns Zeus in a volley of rocks, and he responds by shocking her.

Heron dives with his griffin to catch the falling Cauldron, but Seraphim comes in to pursue him. One of the giants sees this and follows.

Zeus pleads for Hera to stop when a giant snags her from behind. Zeus kills the demon and tries to save her, but he gets caught. The giant leader sets its sights on Hera, but Zeus sacrifices his own life to kill it.

Seraphim kills the griffin and catches Heron in the air before dropping him. Hera tries to reach out to Zeus’ crown, but Seraphim cuts her arm. She escapes with her crows, but the gauntlet gets left behind.

Brothers

Seraphim takes the Cauldron, and the giants turn on the gods. The humans take it from him by riding the Pegasi, and Alexia manages to dismount him.

Heron fights Seraphim in anger as he remembers Zeus. Seraphim chokes him and calls in his bident. Heron stops and remembers Zeus’ words. He plunges the bident into his body, and it also pierces Seraphim. Both seem to be at their end, but as Seraphim grabs his head, Heron gains the power of Zeus and electrocutes his brother.

A giant arrives to grab the Cauldron, but Heron manages to swipe it first. He uses the gauntlet in Seraphim’s hard to trap the giants back into the Cauldron.

Back in Olympus, Heron wakes up in a sickbed with bandages. Olympus is in ruins, but they are rebuilding. Apollo and the other humans congratulate him. Zeus’ statue rises above the city as lightning flashes in the sky.

Seraphim’s soul wakes up in the Underworld and meets the bident’s owner, Hades. The god asks him to kneel.

Our Thoughts:

This series is a thrill ride to the end with plenty of twists and turns. On top of that we get a cliffhanger for the next season! I rate this 4/5.
