To the Sky
Heron washes up on the shore and is reunited with Alexia and the other captives. Elias appears before them and explains that the gods have entered the fray. Alexia recognizes the man as the one who buried Electra.
The ground rumbles under Seraphim as he retrieves the bident. He sees Hera as a raven and strikes her, but he’s thrown back. Seraphim tells her he’s had enough, but Hera promises to help him if he kills Zeus. She asks her to find the Cauldron of Darkness first, offering him to be king.
Heron rejects Elias’ help, but he tells him he’s the key to the war. Elias asks Evios to take Alexia to Melidoni to regain his honor. They must navigate the labyrinth to find the giant’s remains. Burn it, and the demons will fall. The map was destroyed, but he tells them they’ll regain it again. The Theban warriors from the galleys swear to fight with Alexia. Kofi convinces Evios to join in. Elias takes Heron to the sky on a Hippogriff while he turns into an eagle.
The Pantheon sees the arrival of Zeus and Heron, and they can’t believe it. Hermes steps forward and shakes his brother’s hand, and Hera arrives and asks him why he’s brought the bastard to Olympus.
Growth
Zeus admits that what happened on earth was all his fault, and he promises to be true to Hera and apologizes. Hera asks for Heron’s death in return, but Zeus refuses, and she storms off with the rest of the gods.
Zeus warns Poseidon that only a fool would trust Hera. He asks Hermes to follow her.
He takes Heron to an arena to train against one of Hephaestus’ automatons the following day. Heron loses against the giant foe with superior strength. Zeus tells him he can’t defeat it with anger, and he’ll need to be calm and use his wits.
He fights again but fails multiple times. Zeus scolds him for his temper, telling him it’s not real strength. Heron storms off in frustration, and Hephaestus tells Zeus to act like a father.
Alexia takes his ragtag band to the labyrinth. She’s suspicious of Evios’ past as a smuggler, and Kofi hopes they can still redeem themselves.
That afternoon, Zeus goes to Heron while he tends to his wounds. He admits to his son that he doesn’t know how to be a good father, as himself he killed his own. Heron trains again the following day. He doesn’t give up, but he still fights with anger. Electra’s death still weighs on him.
Crossroads
Zeus admits he feels powerless at that time and tells Heron that Seraphim is his half-brother, and he is a part of her, just as Heron is.
Alexia finds Chiron in her journey. The centaur gives her a copy of the map, which he was able to make with mud. The map made its way back, just as Zeus had said. Chiron advises them to approach Melidoni through the Fields of the Dead, where their small force could cross.
Heron’s training becomes more intense, but he learns a lot from the enemy. He sees an opening in its body that exposes its gearwork, and he thrusts his sword into that spot and finally wins.
Hermes arrives to report that Hera is in the Underworld. The fates call for Heron. They show him his life’s thread leading up to this point. He’s at a crossroads that will determine the future of the world. He decides to help his friends on the Field of the Dead, and Zeus tells him he’s not ready.
Our Thoughts:
This series gives a lot for its runtime, which I appreciate. I rate this 3.8/5.
