BLINDSPOT Review: The Band is Back Together in

By Pauline Perenack

Last week on Blindspot, fans were treated to a Patterson-centric episode, and it was amazing. Ashley Johnson really brought it, and Blindspotters collectively cheered her on as she worked through not only a tattoo puzzle, but her feelings about the loss of David.

Because of the heavy focus on Patterson, we didn’t see a whole lot in regards to the other characters, but were left with a mini-cliff hanger. Weller’s father appeared to have a heart attack, and with him in the hospital, it wouldn’t surprise me if Weller’s focus shifts away from his team.

Have you solved this week’s title anagram? Looks like this week’s title “One Begets Technique” decodes to “To Begin the Sequence.” Could this be a clue to solving Jane’s background overall?

Let’s recap tonight’s episode and see what answers we were given.

Until We Meet Again, Rich

Tonight’s episode was interesting in that it was the first episode where the team went on a case that didn’t involve any of Jane’s tattoos. While the final outcome of Rich’s deception was very predictable, the episode worked – but only because of Ennis Esmer’s fantastic delivery. The dialogue he had was quick and witty, and at times seemed to be completely ad-libbed, which made for fantastic reactions from the rest of the cast. It seems as though the writing staff was testing out how episodes would fair when they weren’t focused on a tattoo (because at some point, the tattoos are going to run out), but I’m not sure they’ll be able to get a good read on reactions. This one fared well on Twitter, but only because of Esmer. Most of the other comments were expression of upset over the predicable storyline.

Mayfair’s past however, came back in a big way tonight with the appearance of Sofia, which forces us all to ask the question, why did Sofia fake her own death? And how will this affect Mayfair, since she has spent all of this time blaming herself for Sofia’s death?

While we didn’t get anything new of Jane’s past, Jane was able to dig herself deeper in the lies Oscar is forcing her to tell around her team, and Weller especially. Hopefully in the next couple of episodes we can get back to Jane’s past, since that was the original draw of the show.

As for the rest of the team, tonight’s episode lacked any real character development. Reade and Zapata were barely visible, and Patterson only had a couple of quality scenes. It does appear as though we’re finally getting rid of the forced Allie/Weller relationship, which is great, because that has been a distraction thus far.

Next week’s episode once again focuses on a tattoo of Jane’s, so hopefully we can see more of the team together, and how their respective stories weave together.
