We’ve barely gotten any updates on Blade, but Marvel Studios was ready to start production for the reboot in November. Too bad though, because it looks like the film has caught a major snag.
According to Variety, Bassam Tariq, who was announced as director of Blade, has left the project. It is unclear as to why Tariq left the project, but he is staying on as an executive producer, and he did say in a statement:
“It’s been an honor working with the wonderful folks at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Eager to see where the next director takes the film.”
While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, rumor has it that Mahershala Ali, who has been cast the the Daywalker, is getting frustrated with the process of the Blade film. It’s said that the script put together is only 90 minutes long and only features two ‘lackluster’ action sequences. When it comes to Kevin Feige’s involvement, it’s said that the Marvel producer has been ‘spread too thin.’ Like I said, this is just a rumor for now, but it does kind of track with the lack of updates on Blade.
If anything, the same kind of situation happened with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Scott Derrickson who quit the movie four months before production was set to start. We don’t know who Marvel could hire to suddenly take over the project in two months, but they better act fast.
Blade is set for a release in cinemas on Nov. 3, 2023.
