Avengers: Endgame directors the Russo Brothers may have wanted to do an adaptation of Secret Wars, but it looks like Marvel Studios wants to have some different directors at the helm for the next Avengers movies.
We know that Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) has been assigned to helm Avengers: Kang Dynasty, but word has it that Marvel has found another vet to direct Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to The Weekly Planet Pod (via The Direct), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever helmer Ryan Coogler is currently in the shortlist to direct the sixth Avengers film. Weekly Planet host Mr. Sunday Movies says:
“And Ryan Coogler, here’s another scoop, Mason, is at the very least one of the directors, is currently in talks for Secret Wars. Which makes a lot of sense and yeah, the source here says, this is a reliable source, this person says ‘a fairly obvious choice.’ And it is. That makes sense.”
While nothing official has been confirmed, having Coogler onboard could be a realistic choice. After all, he has directed one of the most successful MCU films to date, and Wakanda Forever looks interesting. Then again, I don’t think Coogler has enough experience with huge blockbuster films yet, and I think an Avengers crossover would add too much pressure on the director; heck, even having Cretton on Kang Dynasty has me worried.
Then again, nothing final has been confirmed, but if Coogler has something good in mind, I wouldn’t mind seeing him take on Secret Wars. Let’s just hope the trolls don’t eat him up.
In the meantime, we wait for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to hit theaters on Nov. 11.
