We know that musical icons have been getting the biopic treatment for the past few years, but Sony Pictures is bringing us back to the sports celebrity biopic. This April will see the release of Big George Foreman biopic, and we have a new trailer with Khris Davis (Judas and the Black Messiah) playing the iconic boxer.
Check this out:
The official description reads:
Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World is based on the remarkable true story of one of the greatest comebacks of all time and the transformational power of second chances. Fueled by an impoverished childhood, Foreman channeled his anger into becoming an Olympic Gold medalist and World Heavyweight Champion, followed by a near-death experience that took him from the boxing ring to the pulpit. But when he sees his community struggling spiritually and financially, Foreman returns to the ring and makes history by reclaiming his title, becoming the oldest and most improbable World Heavyweight Boxing Champion ever.
The movie is being directed by George Tillman Jr. who had also written the script alongside Frank Baldwin. Dan Gordon also gets a story credit.
Probably the biggest star in the movie is Forest Whitaker, who is playing the part of Foreman’s trainer Doc Broadus. Since Davis is a relative unknown, we should expect the film to be his big break—should the movie succeed when it comes out.
The story actually looks pretty interesting, and I think a lot of people want to know what it’s like for someone to have a comeback in a huge way. They even managed to sneak in a teaser about the other big thing Foreman is known for—his specialized grease-eliminating grill.
I didn’t even know a boxer was behind that before I saw the trailer.
Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World is set to come out to theaters on April 28.
