Spilled Blood
The art club and canids are worried for Legoshi. He’s not the type to ditch them for no good reason. Jack sees Legoshi’s beetle pet die in his room and sees it as a bad omen.
Back in the Shishi-Gumi base, Legoshi and the boss get into a bloody fight. He tells Hal to run away, but she can’t. Legoshi feels a strong sense of purpose: it’s a battle to the end. He apologizes to Hal for what she’s about to see.
The wolf’s eyes turn red, his fangs and claws unleashed. He pledges his ferocity to save her. He bites the mob boss’ neck in front of her and wonders how frightening he looks.
Hal is stunned by the bleeding wolf. He takes her hand and asks her to go. She’s shivering, but she grabs him as they hug. She can feel the wolf’s relief.
They slowly walk outside. The panda is gone. One of the lions is still alive, aiming a gun at them — but someone else shoots him. Rouis points a gun at the lion and savors the moment when he’s stronger than a carnivore. He pulls the trigger.
Two other lions appear. Rouis tells them about his number. He dares them to devour him and leave his antlers for last; he laughs menacingly.
Recovery
Legoshi is wounded at a park bench. Hal apologizes to him, but the wolf cuts her off, saying he’s hungry.
They eat at a noodle stall. Hal joins him while savoring the memory of being with Legoshi. The stall owner then tells them the last train has left. They have no choice but to find lodging for the night.
Back at the dorm, Legoshi is wanted for staying out late. The headmistress finds his backpack full of rabbit tutorials. She’s scandalized by his desire for a species far too small and different. A wolf with a rabbit out during the night is unacceptable.
The pair finds a love hotel allowing interspecies couples. Legoshi shivers, but that’s all they can afford at the moment. The wolf offers to sleep outside since Hal might be scared of carnivores. Hal insists; he was the one who saved her. The wolf tells her he’s recharged, and something untoward might happen. Hal says whatever he does will be fine.
This sudden progress confuses the wolf.
He asks her if she’s ever been to one of the hotels before. She says yes, but has never been that nervous. Hal clings to him and laughs. The wolf reaches in to kiss her, but Hal stops him and offers to wash his bloody clothes. Legoshi can’t believe he went for it.
The rabbit realizes how wounded the wolf is. Legoshi grabs her, hugs her, and reveals it was he who supposedly attacked her outside the auditorium. He then admits he really wanted to eat her. But Hal says she knew all along — she had been suspecting for a long time; that was why she was confused by his actions.
The wolf asks her why she kept being nice to her. “It was fun being with you,” she replies. Stuck in their position for a long time, the rabbit asks him to decide: Will he sleep and make love, or will he feed?
She finds his heartbeat exciting and much more menacing than with the lions. The wolf’s hands are trembling, but she assures him every step of the way. Legoshi tries to be gentle, but the rabbit’s instincts are strong — she pushes her hand against Legoshi’s fangs in self-defense.
Our Thoughts
It looks like my prediction went through: the couple will have to navigate through many social hoops and instincts before they can truly express themselves. The story keeps throwing complications at us from day one — its main strength in keeping a compelling narrative. I rate this a 4/5.
