Batwoman is the latest member of the Batman family to get her very own TV series. And of course, what better home would the character have than at The CW? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arrowverse showrunner Greg Berlanti is developing a Batwoman show for the network.
Berlanti is known as the brains behind the hit DC shows in The CW, including Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning. Every year, these shows (except for Lightning) converge into one kick-ass crossover that started in 2016. Last year, “Crisis On Earth-X” was the theme of the Arrowverse crossover, and featured our heroes going against Nazi metahumans from Earth-X. This year, however, will see Batwoman introduced into the network’s DC superhero universe for the crossover this December.
Here’s the show’s logline (via TheWrap):
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. Based on the characters from DC.
Caroline Dries is penning the script for Batwoman and will also executive produce the TV series. Joining Dries and Berlanti in the EP duties are Sarah Schechter and former DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns (under his Mad Ghost Productions banner). It’s exciting to note how the Batwoman series will be introduced into the small screen, especially in such capable hands as Berlanti and Dries. Batwoman joins FOX’s Gotham as the other Batman-centric show on TV.
