The Batman To Feature The 'Detective Version' of The Dark Knight

Over the years, Batman has been showcased as a kick-ass superhero. Starting from Michael Keaton’s portrayal in 1989 up to the present, played by Ben Affleck. However, the upcoming solo movie, “The Batman,” will focus more on The Dark Knight’s detective skills, and this is coming from the director himself—Matt Reeves.

Batman’s detective skills is one of the most important qualities of the character, especially in the comics. There’s never a crisis in Batman’s comic book version where he didn’t use his top notch detective skills, often with the help of Alfred. This comes as very exciting news to hardcore Batman fans as well, seeing how the character’s detective skills were overlooked to a certain degree in the previous films.

This isn’t the first time that we’re hearing about this, though. Before Reeves was announced to take the helm back in February, Affleck already dropped a few ideas that he would like for the character. Affleck said that his Batman would be shown as “the world’s greatest detective,” drawing references to the 1941 noir drama, “The Maltese Falcon.”

The Goings-On In Batman’s Head & Heart

In an interview with New Trailer Buzz, Reeves was approached on the red carpet during the screening of his latest film, “War for the Planet of the Apes.” He had this to say about “The Batman:”

“I think there’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point of view driven in a very, very powerful way that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going inside of his head, and inside of his heart.”

Reeves also referred to both Batman and Caesar from his Apes movie as both “tortured” characters still doing their best to do the right thing.

Obviously, the change of directorship from Affleck to Reeves doesn’t necessarily change the entire vision of where “The Batman” is heading towards. There are rumors of a rewrite of the entire script to give way for more of Reeve’s creativity, but judging by the director’s statement, it’s not too far from what Affleck wants his Batman to be.
