Screenwriter Jeff Loveness may be behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but he’s also signed up to write the next Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. With the Avengers roster still pretty unclear for that film, Loveness teases the fate of the B-tier heroes that were introduced in Phase 4 of Marvel.
Talking to SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), Loveness shares, “As I’m building to Avengers I want it to feel like a generational struggle. Phase 4 felt like the birth of new characters. You’re giving everyone a little bit of a breath, you’re broadening out the universe, you have fun Disney Plus shows that are elevating characters. And now I think it’s time to put the pedal to the gas again, and really take all these new characters that we like and throw them into the fire.”
His mention of a ‘generational’ struggle is also interesting because it could mean the return of some heroes from earlier Marvel like Captain America and Iron Man. Though the characters may be retired now, I’m sure Kang’s time travel abilities will mean he can clash with anyone anytime, and with the Multiverse being explored, we could be looking at different versions of classic characters. Maybe it’s time for that Tom Cruise Iron Man cameo?
As for the Phase 4 heroes, we have Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, and Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye. We also have Sam Wilson’s Captain America and the Winter Soldier, but seeing as those two have been around for a while, I think fans are more curious about how an Avengers-level threat is going to affect the small-time heroes like Kamala Khan. Does She-Hulk even care about issues outside the courtroom?
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. For now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set to release on May 2, 2025. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on Feb. 17.
