ASAP Rocky Arrested Following Sweden Street Brawl

Hip-hop star ASAP Rocky was recently arrested this week after a street fight in Sweden over the weekend. According to TheWrap, the arrest was because of a suspicion of aggravated assault between two local men and Rocky’s entourage on Wednesday. 

ASAP Rocky Faces Serious Charges

The street fight has led to some serious implications for ASAP Rocky. The “Praise The Lord” singer was arrested together with three unknown men in Sweden. The street fight was captured through a video posted by TMZ earlier this week, where it was clear that ASAP Rocky tried to take the high road and talk with the local men before everything went crazy. 

Before the fight, ASAP Rocky posted a short video on his Instagram account with the caption, ”We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble. They followed us for four blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break.” According to the rapper, he repeatedly asked them to not follow him and his entourage. Before the police and ambulance got to the scene, the local men were already on the run, leaving ASAP Rocky on the side of the road.

TMZ also reports that ASAP Rocky willingly went to the police for questioning. However, after being taken into custody, the rapper was held on restricted visitation and can only speak to an appointed attorney. After being alerted to the situation, the U.S. embassy sent a representative to talk to the rapper although Swedish police refused to let him. 

To be able to steer the matter away from breaching ASAP Rocky’s human rights, the matter was taken up with the Swedish Embassy in Washington D.C. Swedish prosecution has not yet commented on the evidence presented and said that it is “too early in the investigation.” The Swedish prosecutors have until Saturday to decide if ASAP Rocky will be detained. 

ASAP Rocky was in Stockholm for the Smash Festival and was supposed to fly out to London for his Wireless Festival performance on Sunday, July 7. 

Born and raised in New York City, ASAP Rocky rose to fame after the release of his mixtape in 2011 called “Live. Love. ASAP.” The record features the hit singles “Peso” and “Purple Swag.” After the success of the mixtape, the rapper finally released his eponymous debut album in 2013 with hit tracks  “Houston Old Head,” “Brand New Guy,” and “Purple Swag: Chapter 2.”
