Upcoming Third Season of Spartacus Will Be the Last

Cable network Starz announced today that the third season of Spartacus, currently under production in New Zealand, will be the final season of the gritty historical series, which premiered in 2010 as the network’s first scripted drama. The show stars Liam McIntyre, who took over the role of Spartacus after the tragic death of star Andy Whitfield in 2011.

According to showrunner and series creator Steven S. DeKnight, the network and producers mutually agreed to wrap the series and go out on a high note with this final episode arc.

The new season is entitled ‘War of the Damned’ and will run ten episodes beginning in January 2013.
