We’ll have to wait until next year to get the second season of House of the Dragon, but it looks like HBO already has another Game of Thrones spinoff in their sights.
Variety reports that another Thrones prequel is being discussed at HBO, and it will focus on the story of Aegon I Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros. So far, no writer or showrunner has been confirmed for the show, but sources do say that this could potentially be a movie.
With House of the Dragon pretty much drawing everyone back to the world of George R.R. Martin, I think a feature could be the right direction to move for the story of Aegon I Targaryen. After all, his story is kind of fleshed out in the series already; I would rather watch a movie about the Fall of Valyria with Avatar-level spectacle than to have a drawn-out series with 1-2 VFX heavy episodes every season.
While this spinoff is still in very early stages, there has been a lot of fan casting online that wants Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Man of Steel) to play Aegon. We know that he looks great with long white hair, and with him leaving Witcher and not pushing forward as Superman, there could be room for him to shoot one big fantasy epic meant for cinemas.
You think general audiences would be ready to watch Aegon conquer the world with his two sister-wives?
An Aegon-focused prequel hasn’t been officially announced, but you can watch out for House of the Dragon now streaming on HBO Max.
