Compared to her roles in previous films, Anne Hathaway is moving on to something more terrifying. Variety reports that the Ocean’s 8 star has closed a deal to star in Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches remake as the Grand High Witch.
The Witches is based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 novel that revolves around a seven-year-old boy who accidentally runs across a coven of child-hating witches presided over by the Grand High Witch. The witches turn him into a mouse. But even then, he tries to stop their plan of ridding the world of children once and for all.
Warner Bros. has already produced a loose adaptation back in 1990 starring Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch. However, Zemeckis’ remake is reportedly going to stick closer to Dahl’s novel according to Variety.
Aside from writing the script, Zemeckis will be producing the film with Jack Rapke through their ImageMovers banner. Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro will be joining them as well.
On the other hand, Hathaway has recently wrapped filming on the drama The Last Thing He Wanted for Netflix. And she is currently occupied with the untitled film about the DuPont chemical company together with Tim Robbins and Mark Ruffalo. Hathaway also stars in the comedy The Hustle and the thriller Serenity.
