Whiskey Cavelier and Devious Maids actress Anna Ortiz will play an important role in the upcoming series of Love, Simon in Disney+ according to Deadline.
The series is inspired by the coming of age movie ‘Love Simon’ that hit the cinemas last year. The movie focuses on Simon Spier, a closeted teen boy who grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta City. Love Simon starred Nick Robinson, Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel (who played Simon’s parents respectively), Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Love Simon is the cinematic adaptation of Becky Albertalli’s “Simon and the Homosapien Agenda.” Albertalli also wrote a spin-off featuring Langford’s movie character, Leah, titled “Leah On The Offbeat,” released in 2018. The spinoff follows Leah’s journey to overcome her personal issues like going to college, being an outcast, relationships, body image, sexuality, self-esteem, and friendship.
The movie was directed by Greg Berlanti, but he will not be back to helm the series due to his exclusive contract with Warner Bros. TV. However, Love Simon scribes Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker will be back to write and run the show.
‘Love Simon’ Series Narrative
Although the series is inspired by the movie, it was made clear that the series will not be a sequel nor an adaptation. It is a spinoff that will follow a whole other narrative, with a new lead character named Victor and his mom named Isabel, who will be played by Anna Ortiz.
The series will be produced by various talented people like Marty Bowen, Isaac Klausner, and Pouya Shahbazian, as well as Brian Tanen. The creation of the ‘Love Simon’ Series has made another cooperative work of Tanen with ABC Studios and different divisions of Disney TV Studios.
All Disney Movies and TV shows will be available on Disney+ and also various content from Fox. A slew of other original series like Love Simon was also announced, including a High School Musical series and MCU spinoffs Falcon & The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Hawkeye’s live action series. We can also expect a new Monsters Inc TV sequel, titled Monsters at Work, and the first-ever live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV series by Jon Favreau called The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal.
The Love, Simon series is set to release together with the official availability of Disney+ November 12th.
